The Calvary Zion Children’s Home is located near Mombasa. My wife and I volunteered there for two weeks, doing whatever work was necessary, from washing dishes to folding clothes. I returned eight years later to write an award-winning story for The Washington Post Magazine. The safari photos are from Tsavo National Park. All photos taken my me and Karen Budd.
